Horseshoe Upper and DenSureFit

DenSureFit may be used on an acrylic horseshoe-shaped upper (palate-less) denture. How can it help and what might it not be able to help?

DenSureFit may be used on an acrylic horseshoe-shaped upper denture (upper plate with the palate cut out). There are many DenSureFit customers who use DenSureFit on their horseshoe uppers quite successfully. The silicone will fill voids and gaps to make the denture fit very well and stay secure. Flashing of the silicone around the ridge of the denture provides an excellent seal.

  • Please note that DenSureFit is for ACRYLIC dentures. If your horseshoe upper is made of an alternative denture material, please note that DenSureFit will likely NOT adhere well and you will not get a long life out of your liner as it will very likely lift prematurely. DenSureFit is NOT recommended on alternative denture materials.

Whether or not you will be able to completely go adhesive-free by using DenSureFit on your horseshoe upper depends on each individual situation. Some have the natural contours and denture conditions to be able to go adhesive-free and some do not. But horseshoe upper DenSureFit users always report enjoying the benefits of the best-fit-possible for their particular denture situation and amazing cushioning comfort.

The upper denture is intended to stay in via suction, and that suction happens in the roof of your mouth where the palate of the upper denture is. When the palate of the denture is removed, the chance of obtaining suction is decreased significantly. Some are still able to get some suction with their horseshoe upper while others are not. Ones who are not will require adhesive to keep the denture secure.

DenSureFit users are able to switch from paste adhesive to POWDER adhesive on top of their DenSureFit lining, which they report is a drastic improvement. Now, their denture fits well because voids/gaps in the trough/gum line are filled. Switching to powder adhesive means the taste of food is not changed, no more oozing of paste adhesive, and easier removal at the end of the day since the powder does not stick to the mouth like paste does.

A horseshoe upper usually fits into the category of the types of dentures below that are likely to get only minimal or no suction:

IMPORTANT! You will need to work QUICKLY to get the silicone onto your denture and into your mouth QUICKLY. It is critical that the silicone does not start setting up/thicken outside of your mouth. You need it to spread thinly and evenly in its most fluid state INSIDE of your mouth. It doesn't have to be neat or pretty, just follow the general guideline below and get it into your mouth within a few seconds.

APPLY SILICONE: Apply a full applicator of silicone to your denture following the general pattern in the photo below: around the middle of the wall and around what palate area you may have.

Optional: SQUIGGLE THROUGH SILICONE ON PALATE AREA: Then, with the tip of the applicator, quickly mess up the line of silicone on the palate area by squiggling through the silicone (see photo below) so that it spreads more evenly.

SEAT DENTURE: Place thumbs together on palate area as shown above. Press UP and towards the bridge of your nose. Do not push back! Hold for 4 minutes.

SNUG UP? If you are still loose, a Snug Up might be necessary. Follow the directions in the Instruction Booklet for the Snug Up application on the Upper. Be careful that you do NOT apply any silicone to the palate area. Only apply it to the wall area as indicated in the booklet.
